May 2019 Newsletter

Updated: May 20, 2019

Dear Families,

*** SPACES AVAILABLE ON FRIDAYS ***

There are currently a few places available at After School Club on a Friday. If you are interested please speak to Roberta.

MAY HOLIDAY CLUB

The May Holiday Club is open for bookings, and places are filling up! The theme is Story Telling. With some help from the children and playworkers we have planned some really exciting activities! We will be making crowns and wizard hats, as well as designing super hero masks. We are also going on a trip to the park. We will be making the most of the playgrounds, including the climbing equipment, so lots of outdoor play will be encouraged! As always we are expecting holiday club to be very busy so we strongly recommend booking early. We will be back in the Infant School for the May Holiday Club.

Please make sure you pay for your holiday club booking as soon as you make it, and please pay your after school club bill on time. Late payments have to be chased by our administrator, and cost the scheme money. Paying on time helps us to keep our overheads down, and helps us keep costs low for parents.

SNACKS

The children have snack time every day on arrival at ASC (either at the end of school or after their extra curricular club). Do you know what snacks we give the children? We rotate three different snacks that were chosen in conjunction with the children.

Snack 1 is breadsticks, hummus and crudités such as cucumber and carrot sticks

Snack 2 is cheese and crackers

Snack 3 is wholemeal pittas with fillings such as cheese, tomato, hummus

We also have fresh water and fruit (watermelon, orange slices, apples, pepper, satsumas, pineapple etc) available all through the session.

We also cater for specific dietary requirements.

It is important to us that the children are able to access a healthy, tasty snack so that they have plenty of energy to play with!

DONATIONS

We are very keen to receive any spare pairs of shorts, joggers or leggings you may have lying around at home! They do not need to be in perfect condition - just good enough to borrow. We would appreciate any child sizes from aged 4 up to 12. If you do not have anything at the moment please do keep us in mind when you have your next clear out.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to Josh who has donated all of his old Lego to us!

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB

We are making the most of the lighter evenings and are playing outside whenever possible. The children have been enjoying making dens outside, having egg and spoon races and playing capture the flag. As usual, lots of tennis and football have been taking place, as well as climbing on the play equipment. The children have also been enjoying poking around in the mud and under stones, and have been looking at lots of different insects.

STAFF NEWS

We would like to welcome Const, Lily, Gee, Emily G and Katy to our team. They have all been with us for a while now, and the children have been having lots of fun playing with and getting to know them.

We would also like to congratulate Lauren and Hollie. They have accepted places on a Level 2 Playwork course.

Lauren and Gee have completed a four session course of Makaton training.

Did you know that over two thirds of our After School Club staff hold a current Pediatric First Aid certificate?  A huge achievement when we look at how many staff we have!

LIBACURA

Libacura have informed us that some people using the browser ‘Microsoft Edge’ are experiencing problems accessing Libacura. This is because there is an issue with Microsoft Edge. If you are having problems accessing Libacura try using a different browser, or updating to the newest version of Microsoft Edge.

ABSENCE

Please let us know on 07847479626 if your child won’t be attending After School Club. This is especially important if your child is in the Juniors because we do not see their teachers. Please also let us know if your child won’t be attending holiday club. It is possible that we can resell a place even on the day, if there is a waiting list.

There is a 48 hour exclusion period for children (and staff) after the LAST episode of sickness or diarrhea. We have your children and our staff’s best interests at heart by enforcing these exclusion periods. By bringing your poorly child in you are putting other children (and our staff) at risk. Thank you for your support.

WHO’S WHO

Zack joined our team in 2017 as a playworker, having spent the previous two years volunteering with us. Since joining Zack has undertaken lots of training courses, including First Aid and Administration of Medications as well as Food Hygiene and Child Protection. Zack has also completed a Level 2 qualification in Playwork, and is now a Senior Playworker. Zack’s favourite parts of the job are playing football with the children outside, doing arts and crafts and helping out with first aid. Out of work he enjoys mountain biking, seeing friends and preparing for studying medicine at university.

Next time you are in, please stop and say hello!

YOU SAID, WE DID

Each newsletter we will share with you how we have responded to feedback from either an adult or a child. Your feedback is very important to us, and we welcome your comments.

YOU SAID:

The children have asked us to buy some more kinetic sand.

WE DID:

We have ordered some more kinetic sand for the children to play with.

We are always keen to hear your views. There is a suggestions box at the back of the dining hall or pop in for a chat.

THANK YOU for your continued support.
