December 2019 Newsletter

Dear Families,

After School Club Can you believe it’s that time of year again?! We have started running lots of exciting Christmassy activities to get into the spirit in these last few weeks of the year. As always, we welcome requests and suggestions for activities and games from parents and children. Please pass on your ideas to Jenny, Cal or Liam, or simply write them on some paper and pop them in our Suggestion Box which you can find on the cupboards at the back of the After School Club room.

So far this term we have celebrated Absurdity Day by making some surreal paintings, World Kindness Day by making certificates for our friends, and Disability Day by taking part in some challenges that put the children in the shoes of people with disabilities. Elsewhere, Dodgeball season is in full swing, and will be until the February Holiday Club.

The children have been enjoying playing with the old telephones and type writer, setting up offices, cafes, and even running their own ‘Jenny’s desk’! Thank you to all of the parents who have supported the children’s imaginative play, by ordering food and signing out on the children’s handmade registers at pick up time!

Holiday Club It’s not too late to book places! We still have availability on every day of the Holiday Club, except for the INSET day on the 6th January, which is now fully booked. We have a day trip to Jump and Hollywood Bowl on Monday the 23rd December (great opportunity to get any last minute bits done whilst the children burn off some steam), and on the 2nd and 3rd January we will be going to the park, making tasty treats and playing all sorts of games with balloons! Please visit the Latest Programme page for full details.

Outdoor Play During the Winter months, our outdoor play routines change slightly. The children can play in the big playground from 4pm until about 4.30pm, when we bring the children into the small playground. At about 4.45pm we open the Sports Hall for Dodgeball and playing on the mats. With the temperature dropping all the time, we expect children to wear coats when they play outside, so please make sure they have appropriate layers for this.

Watch This Space As you may be aware, Libacura is closing down in April. This will mean re-registering with our new booking provider in the New Year. We are currently in the final phases of arranging our new provider and more information will follow soon.

Compost Over the last couple of years we have been turning our food waste into compost. During the October Half-Term we planted some Broad Beans in the Infant School’s Pond Area, using the compost - and the sprouts are already showing. Take a look next time you are walking past!

Mobile Phones School’s Out Henleaze is a ‘Phone Free Zone.’ Phones must be kept completely out of sight in a bag or pocket and may not be used in any circumstances in either the building or our playgrounds. If you do not have a bag or pocket to put your phone in please leave it at home!

Facebook Our Facebook page is the best way to keep up to date with Holiday Club availability, and everything else your children are getting up to!

(Our Facebook page can also be viewed on the home page of our website.)

Absence If your child will not be attending ASC it is important you let us know on 07847479626. This is even more important if your child is in the Junior School because we do not see their teachers.

Who’s Who

Gee joined our team in 2019 as a Playworker. She has a degree in psychology, and was a police cadet for two years. Gee worked in another holiday club for many years and has lots of experience working with children, and at University she was a member of the Ultimate Frisbee team.

At After School Club, Gee is one of our Early Years Keyworkers. You will often find her running around outside being silly with the reception children and she has done a fantastic job of settling them all in and helping them make friends with each other. Gee’s favourite part of the job is getting to know the children, running and joining in the activities and also being part of a lovely team!

You Said, We Did Each newsletter we will share with you how we have responded to feedback from either an adult or a child. Your feedback is very important to us, and we welcome your comments.

You Said: Please can we do some pottery? (Child request)

We Did: We ran a clay pot making activity

We are always keen to hear your views. There is a suggestions box at the back of the ASC dining hall, or pop in for a chat.

Thank You for your continued support.
